Forget it and keep the falcon, fuel economy is around the same or even
worse,
drove one for three weeks and travelled 5000 kilometres costing me more
than what my Falcon EF would have.
They are not comfortable either
The Outlander name brings to mind that it would be Outlandish to buy one

I can't comment on them specifically, but I would imagine it being somewhat
difficult for them to get better mileage than a Falcon. Oz might know, as
he's the resident Mitsu freak.

Personally, I think they're as ugly as a hat full of arseholes, like
everything else in the current Mitsu range. I know you weren't asking that,
but I like to remind people :)

Jeeze, you don't know anything about fishing if you think that just
standing and yelling at the fish is "baiting" Dan!

driven it, but i have not heard anything great about them and i agree
they look like poo.

She traded in her brand newish ford territory for it! what a money loser!

Buying a soft roader for better economy than a falc is a brave move -
i'd be surprised if it was any better.  You would miss the performance
and comfort (relatively speaking) of a large sedan, too.

This month's Wheel's magazine has a review of small-mid sized automatic soft
roaders.  Outlander came in about 3rd behind Subaru Forester and upsized Rav
4.

Buying a new car will cost a hell of a lot more that what you'll save in
fuel bills.

Best thing would be to drop to mid-sized car like a VW Golf or Jetta.
2.0l petrol engine gets around 8l/100kms fuel economy.

Do you really _need_ a new large car? Obviously the fuel bill is
important to you, so perhaps you need to reconsider your priorities,
particularly in regards to desire or need for a large car. For all I
know you have 4 18 year old sons to cart around so you need something
large, so my Golf suggestion won't suit. In that case, you need an LPG
conversion IMHO.

Just get LPG.

That *could* be a good move, but I'd check the suitability first.

All cars will run happily on lpg, but very few soft roaders seem to have
enough space available to mount a decent gas tank.

Comments? Yup.
If you want space get a Falcadore wagon.
If you want a fourby and will use it off road, get a real one. Really can't
understand those ppl who want space so go and buy a softraoder

Falcadore wagons don't have the height in the back that a softroader does.  And
they chew the juice.

And also, the Outlander may not have the approach and departure angles
of a true off road 4x4, but it has the same diff/AWD setup as a Pajero,
I believe.  Which is why my brother is getting one - plenty of space
(one of the largest in that class), drives half decently (for its class
- worth a read of the recent magazine article mentioned in an earlier
post) and he wants the AWD for the many trips to various family members
who live on horrible country back roads.

Cheers,
Steve

I speculate many people don't want to buy a car that looks like a taxicab.
