census night stunt.........sleep in your car

Back in 1991 some friends lived in a large one bedroom flat in the middle of
Perth

In order to do our bit to "help" the govt obtain useful data, we arranged to
have a party on the Tuesday census night

The party included a sleepover for any that wanted

We got something like 20 people (my friends had asked the census person who
dropped off the forms for 40 extra individual forms ! )

Later I heard that in the whole of WA, something like 50 households
comprised of 5 or more people being forced to live in single bedroom
accomodation

It has occured to me that we on this newsgroup can initiate a scheme where
many of us sleep in our cars on census night........the car can be parked on
the driveway/lawn/garage whatever and have electric cord for a heater or
small tv etc

Otherwise  perhaps a tent in the backyard.  I seem to recall thinking last
time, 5 years ago, that a substantial tent community could "apparently" be
brought into existence.  I  can't remember the exact wording but there was a
facility for those living in tents and cars and the like

Just an idea, how we can all do our bit to "help" the  GovCo obtain
"useful" information on our lives

BTW.....and I cannot speak for the accuracy of this at all, but recently I
was in NZ mixing with some university types, and it was said that if you put
for religion on a NZ census form "Pagan" then the answer is disregarded as
being deliberately false.  Whereas if you put "Jedi" that is accepted
because previously StarWars fans jumped through the necessary legal hoops to
get it recognised as a bona fida religion.

However something I do know, and this relates to the record of the
percentage of population  who identify as Pagan being
under-represented........Many years ago a friend of mine went to one of
Perth's major private hospital "St John of God" (in Subiaco)

Upon checking in the nurse/administrator was taking details.  For religion
when asked my friend said "Pagan".

Nurse-admin  "Oh we'll just leave that one blank then"

I would guess that SJoG hospital is Catholic owned, and other "approved"
religions  likely to include the major Protestant variations......Baptists,
Methodist, and the like

I wonder if they also refuse to register the religious orientation of Jews
and Moslems  at that hospital ?

Maybe this year census I should record myself as JEDI. or perhaps a Zootist-
one of the Chosen.  I'm NOT a follower of the Ori from Stargate, but perhaps
there's something from Blakes 7 or Dr Who, I can reasonably claim that I
honestly believe in.

"Jedi Knights" has a large following as Religion.
If more join, they may have to make it a recognised cult. :-)

If they do, BTW I believe Jedi got the necessary numbers to be a
recognized religion in an earlier census, who-ever runs it is eligible
for substantial Tax lurks as they apply to churches.
Who'd have thunk...

yeah, I read it - and the ABS 'we're not threatening anybody but we
are threatening anybody we can get our slimy little GovCo paws on'
piece.
All bluster.
If those Jedi people actually do form an active religious group, GovCo
is f.cked, and has to comply with it's own stupid legislation
protecting the established religions.
Make no mistake at all - the Jedi thing is absolutely no different
from any other 'religion'.
All bullshit. All of 'em.

Last Census our tour company did an over night stop in Dingo QLD, we
stayed on a cattle station.

There are about 150 people live in dingo but we added another 105 that
night.

Wonder if it changed the way money was spent in the area

You sound like you are another sad Pagan.

Dunno about this Pagan stuff Catherine, but i once knew of a dyslexic
Devil worshipper who sold his soul to Santa!

I'm sure my ex missus ran off and left me to join "The Sisters Of The
Impenetrable Hymen".

Geez, wouldn't it be so much simpler just to put bogus information on
the form and not screw up a good nights sleep?

So many wonderful theories in this thread. Has anyone here actually
participated in a census????!!!!  Like where it asks who stayed in the house
tonight,  then a coupla questions later it asks for their *normal address*

Derrrr they kinda thought about the fact people have parties, or travel
around, spen one night in hospital, or prison, or whatever.

Tee hee ... I might have a sleepover and that would crash the Govt Census
Computer heeeeehhheeee and then that would make society break down like
totally, and then like like maybe pizzas would be free after that

To all the conspiricy theorists (sp?) out there, GET OVER IT!

The government really doesn't give a sh.t about your tiny insignificant
lives and they really aren't interested in you at all.  The idea behind it
is to gather data to allow for future planning such as where to build future
infustructure (sp?) such as schools, emergency services, roads etc etc etc.

On the other hand, you can fill the form full of crap and then as expected,
you will be one of the first to squeel when there is no school (or whatever)
near where you live.

I'd be far more interested in ensuring there's no (whatever) police
station nearby.
