AU Ford and seatbelt stalks

Hi all,

We have an AU Futura, I am disabled and the problem I have is because the
seat is contoured??

The seat belt stalk is too short for me to reach (because of my
dexteritory). If it was up about 6 inches higher I woud be able to manage
it. Does Ford by any chance make a longer stalk??

It would help heaps!

Thanks

Not that I'm aware of.

You might be able to get some help from someone who specialises in fitting
cars with hand controls for disabled people (the Yellow pages would be the
place to look for those), but aside from that the only thing I could suggest
is that you take your car to a mechanic to see if they can offer any help.

Just out of curiosity, I can't help wondering what's your ability to drive a
car like?

I'm not meaning to be offensive by that (for a change), and believe me I
fully understand what being disabled is all about. Feel free to tell me to
go fourth and multiply if you like, but I find it hard to imagine that
someone who finds fastening a seatbelt a difficult task would be able to
competently drive a vehicle.

Just to get the post back on topic, Klippan (who AFAIK make all
replacement seatbelts in Aus) *do* make seat belt stalks in various
sizes/lengths (longer ones available for custom/hot rod stuff etc).  As
far as legalities go with regards to replacing them, I really don't
know.  Best bet may be to contact an approved RTA restraint fitting
station and see what they say.

Good luck.

Cheers,

Andy.  (The other Andy.)

Have you tried a Ford Dealer?
Ford do have seat belt stalks in various lengths so they may be able to
help.

I have an au ute with 'bench' seat (really just 3 seats).  The stalk on the
middle seat is very long.  On my young nephew it goes most of the way across
his body.  But he is 4 and quite small for even a 4 yr old.

perhaps you could get one of those some where

I did reply earlier but i'm not sure it got through ... anyway.  My AU ute
is a bench seat.  The middle seat belt stork is very long (almost a foot).
Might be one to look for.
