Hi, I am in South Africa on holiday from Perth where I am a mechanic
and while here have found a perfect condition HR special wagon, one
owner (84 year old had since new), 41000miles, never been in accident,
no rust as 600kms from nearest sea, even the back tailgate is perfect,
interia like new, manual gearbox. What is it worth? Shipping costs back
to Oz? I looked at customs and there is no duty or gst as is Australian
manufactured and is over 30 years old. I am thinking of shipping it
back myself of if any one is intersted e-mail me. Will get pics if
wanted. Tim

Sounds nice. But in reality it's just a HR, and a wagon at that.

I agree.
Even though I like HR's, and think they were a great model, wagons in mint
condition are not exactly prized collectables and unless this guy was
getting it for free and planned on keeping the thing it would hardly be
worth the effort.
If he wants to make a buck while in South Africa, then he should look around
for an XY "Fairmont GT", which were basically an Australian XY GT that was
exported to SA. They can be had reasonably cheap over there, and fetch good
money here.

These old holdens all have less than 100,000 miles on the clock. Not
suprising seeing the clock goes back to zero at 100,000 miles.

The one thing I remember clearly about the old mans HR wagon was it was
green and white. The rest is better off forgotten... although the back
was a good spot to sleep listening to the diff. The diff had a soothing
sound as anyone who has slept in the back of a moving HR wagon at highway
speeds will tell you.

I don't take sides.
It's more fun to insult everyone.

Yeah, my old man's HR and before that FC both had the same diff whirring
noise or hum at around 50 mph. That particular diff set-up guy must have
reached at least 15 yrs with GMH. Wonder what he got? A gold pen or a
chromed blueing kit?
