A few weeks back I posted asking for advice regarding the purchase of a
Mercedes 300E.

Some may even recall that after some very good advice, I bought the
damm thing. I've had a few weeks fun motoring but I've decided that its
not for me.

Basically it is just a little too heavy on fuel and a little too
lacking in urge to suit my tastes. I've also discovered the fundamental
disadvantage of owning a Mercedes, even a less than new one - people
seem to want to disfigure or damage it for no bloody reason at all.

Only last night I parked between a HSV Holden on one side and one of
those new Mitsi 380 thingys on the other. Came back a couple of hours
later and I'm the one that had the scratch on the bonnet and the second
bonnet emblem since I've owned the bloody thing has been nicked.

Anyway, in the few weeks that I've had it there have been no mechanical
issues, there was a bit of hesitation off idle and a rough idle first
start of the day, but the previous owner's mechanic replaced some part
in the injection system (FOC) and that cleared that up. By the way he
tells me that all parts for the Bosch mechanical fuel injection system
fitted can be had non-genuine and relatively cheaply, which means you
do not have to pay Mercedes prices.

I've had the pioneer stacker fixed (ouch! on that one) and the sunroof
now works properly. I fitted new front seat covers and I've also bought
one brand new tyre and matched it to the previously un-roaded spare and
put them on the rear, front tyres are at 60~70% with a little excess
wear on the side due to excessive speed around local roundabouts.

All in all I sort of like it, but the reality is that the same money
buys a better Falcon of Commodre wagon, and a wagon is what I really
need.

6 Cyl with lots of valves......
381,000 km, BUT, engine fully rebuilt by Merc workshop less than a year
ago, trans also rebuilt at same time.
Full respray in original colour less than 12 mths ago.
No squeaks and rattles, full dealer service history (prior to me buying
it anyway).

9 months QLD rego.
Current roadworthy and safety cert.

First person to offer me more than $6k owns it, or alternatively I'll
accept a swap of a Falcadore wagon of equivalent value, providing that
said Falcadore is NOT a V8.
