Convoy

On Tuesday I saw a convoy (feck the exact term for this type of convoy
escapes me ATM) - I was on the Gore Hill expressway, and first noticed
what looked like someone being pulled over by a police motorcycle,
heading in the opposite direction to me (heading for the Harbour
Bridge). The cop was wildly gesticulating for drivers to get off the
road and onto the narrow shoulder there. There appeared to be a fair
bit of confusion, and the first 2 cop-bikers were going nuts! I then
noticed another cop bike, and then another............
They were traveling pretty quickly, and I realised what was coming.
Sure enough, there followed about a dozen vehicles, including regular
length Lincoln Town Cars, 2 stretch versions, a couple of Suburbans,
and a couple of 'pick-ups' with what looked like tall, armored
'paddy's' in in the tray. All vehicles were black with black windows.
They would have all been doing about 100km/h in very close formation!
I know there are plenty of drivers out there who suffer brain-fade
whenever they encounter emergency vehicles (like, come to a complete
halt in the middle of the road, thinking that this helps), but
emergency vehicles wouldn't normally be traveling at such speed, and
in this case they really didn't have much of a chance to work out what
was happening!
I assumed it was Dick Cheney at the time, but have since found out he
only arrived within the last 2 days.
I'm wondering who the f.ck is so important to justify this type of
sanctioned madness? (The PM usually travels in white CommCars with #1
plates).
The whole scene made me think of George Orwell's 1984!

I've actually done an urrrm, not permitted left turn on red,
while PM travelling past in t'other lane. I think.

Does not seem to carry that many vehicles with him.

I'd agree, no one is that important. If they can pay for
the w.nk/rice factor of the whole thing (or some overseas
GovCo are willing to) - it's their money, however are
arseholes for pissing everyone else orf.

Meybe a movie shoot?

I remember once they closed down lanes on the Sydney
Bridge for a "Saint" movie.

Probably. Test the route, security and procedures, etc.

I wonder if their vehicles complied with ADRs...

Vehicles imported for a short-term stay and then re-exported don't have to
be eligible.

I'm very much against "American" type motorcades.  Flashing lights, sirens or police escorts are
for emergency situations ONLY.

Piss-off Cheney - with all of your American style drama!

Heh, and what better way to advertise to the world that you're transporting
someone important?  I mean really...  what ever happened to discretion?

ha ha...communism is generally a majority rather than a minority,(in
this case there must be a majority or australians just scribble the
ballot and go home),specificly an entire community working to one cause
and excluding a minorities rights to either beliefs and or practises
with capital punishment.
Communisim is normally only discovered when some people can no longer
follow a chosen path in life due to silly laws and regulations that
prevent this way of life or a thrid party prescibes it in human rights
claims.

In  documented forms of communisim I am actually internally communist so
to speak, however I do not encourage my entire community or gneral public
to work as I do,although 98% of them have done,if they did not their
parents did,I just do it because it is how I have seen people work from
the beginning of time, with a pick and shovel to accomplish my clause to
life.
It takes a life time to build a life a design or master peice, not a loan
and several gov co officals with permit books.

white makes an easy target, then again, the 50 members that keep howard in
office must live near by and hail his town paraides.....
