I watch that movie Blood Diamonds the other night. Interesting how every
time a pack of gunmen arrive at a village to massacre little kiddies they
always seem to be driving Hiluxs with the big TOYOTA on the rear featuring
prominantly in most of the shots. Did Nissan pay them off or something? :-)

That movie was totally unbelievable! Did you see how when he escaped
in a Pajero, and even though he thrashed the bejesus out of it and was
shot at repeatedly, it didn't blow any blue smoke! Must have blown the
CGI budget for that scene ; p

Easy, to do. Just have a toyota engine in it.

It's powerful advertising aimed directly at the wannabes.  Same as the
potentates who rule over 'em always drive mercs (as do their
emulators).  ;-)

I wonder if it was a deliberate product placement or how it really is,
Toyota have sold squillions of Hiluxes around the world so they are a
very common sight, I have seen the movie and didn't even notice them.

I didn't go back and count the number of toyotas vs other makes but the big
TOYOTA on the back of the 'luxes did stand out. Maybe it's the image toyota
wants? ;-)

I see the big Toyota sign on the back of mine and other Hilux's so often
that I don't even notice it any more, maybe the sign is so common that
its lost its effectiveness as an advertising tool.

Possibly true. The previous 'lux versions came white with black stand
out letters on the tailgate. Mine has the stand out letters, but not
the
black paint. So there were different variants (mind you I updated the
tailgate from what might have been a 2x4 'lux - my original used to
have the black lettering).

They don't go to the trouble of stamping it into the tailgate skins for
nothing :)

They could built it into their advertising "when you want to go on a
massacre, think toyota."
