Was car hunting today for a cheap POS car for the girlfriend as she has
trouble trying to get the Nissan patrol (4.2 turbo diesel with 4 inch lift
kit) into her underground car park at work.

So we are looking at a cheap Hyundai - why one of those POS- i wont care if
it gets stolen, smashed , dinged as you can get them for about $2500 for
97 -99 model on ebay  - trading post and other car sales places online  ---
anyway

Armed with this price guide i head down to motor finance wizzards ( as they
were on my way home so just popped in out of curiosity )  seen 3 hyundais on
the lot  ----  go have a look at the price in the window ---  1996 models  -
150 000 Km on the clock  ---  $12 990  ON ALL THREE !!!!  ( thats each not
all together)

Car sales guys approaches - "Can i help you sir ...."

Me ; " yeh i have a question  , where do you get your prices from ? "
car sales guy hessitates as he thinks of some bullshit to spin me - " ......
Um there the retail price for this year "
Me - " hahaha your kidding right ? there a few thousand $$ new and with 5
years warranty and this car is 10 years old !! "
car sales guy - "...............  ( sound of crickets in back ground )
....... "
Me - " Never mind  - will go buy one from car point for $2500 - no wonder
you offer Interest free finace you mark the price up by 10 K as the
interest!!"
Car sales guy "............... ( blank expresion ) .........  "

I leave the car yard laughing at the prices , but cant help but think of the
people that get sucked in to buy these OVERinflated prices because they may
have bad credit ......

I wondered why the didnt advertise there prices on the net - they list it
as - email us for price enquiry -

IMO - Dont even bother with this car yard  - Private or auction is still the
go

If you offered cash, they would've given it to you for 3 grand.

Yep well your guess about why their prices is exactly right. I know two
People who have bought cars from them on Woodville Rd (dunno if they
have any other yards) and the only reason they went through them was
because both had credit ratings shot to sh.t. Needless to say both know
they got ripped off. One of them being a smart man kept at the bloke
about the pricing structure and basically got the answer that something
in the vicinity of 12 or 13% IIRC interest gets calculated into the
price, as do all other costs, so they can offer their "interest free"
loans. Pretty obvious really that nothing ever comes for free.

If it was 13% + reasonable cost then it would be ok but this sounds WAY over
the top. Costs could not be in the order of $7000.

Yeah well that's what you would think hey. Makes you wonder how they
justify it. Oh that's right. They are a caryard...

And just why, pray tell, were their credit ratings shot to sh.t?

Because they had ripped off lenders in the past.

And they have the hide to complain about someone trying to rip
them off!

It's none of my business as to why they have bad credit ratings. It's
none of yours for that matter either. Do you pry that far into your
associates lives to the point of knowing their financial details?

Where did I say they complained of being ripped off? Fact is both are
happy with their cars, and haven't complained at all of being ripped
off. But they both know they were.

I think we all will have deduced that ploy - without bothering to attend
a car-yard.  But thanks for confirming it  :)

Its sad that some dumb bastards will buy cars at the hugely inflated
prices, it only takes a small amount of time to do a bit of research
that will give then a good indication what a car is worth but they don't
bother.
The very old saying that a fool and their money are soon parted is still
very true.
