Cyborg 0019 - 17 Jun 2007 04:40 GMT Yep an old Holden torana,LX at a guess,as a daily work horse, she was pulling a mesh box trailer. Was in pretty good original condition.
Very unusal sight out this way,I am not the only one on the road.
So thats my car a torana and a pretty immaculate original with hubcaps and well looked after paint HZ holden sedan. Also some friends of mine in a HT which they have had since new, which has always looked rough, they are old however and olny make a 200km trip at public holidays.
That about rounds them up. Brings an era flying back.
Shaun P - 17 Jun 2007 04:48 GMT My son has just turned 18, he doesnt have much money.
He bought an LH Torana for 2 slabs of beer lol
Needed a sun visor to pass a RWC.
140,000 genuine k.ms.
Does ok for a first car. :)

They weren't that good a car interior-wise. GMH at the time was using ultra shitty plastic on things like the console and dash panels. Rubber mats were still the go. The only redeeming feature was they were slightly lighter than the tank HQ and went a bit better. The Opel engines and trans combo were abysmal cars. My FIL had one as a work car. If you left the handbrake on, the auto- Opel 4 just made a moaning noise if you tried to move off. How GMH got away with their periodic forays into shitty German and British (Vauxhall) running gear Idont know.

He doesn't need to outrun the bear, he just needs to run faster than the second guy.
Likewise, holden could make some eyewateringly bad stuff, and it sold because the competition was just as bad, if not worse.

Marco - 18 Jun 2007 23:06 GMT How GMH
> got away with their periodic forays into shitty German and British > (Vauxhall) running gear Idont know. Ah yes...like the three Opel gearboxes my Dad went through in a 186 Monaro...
Marco
Noddy - 19 Jun 2007 00:21 GMT > Ah yes...like the three Opel gearboxes my Dad went through in a 186 > Monaro... Yeah, total disgusting heap of rubbish from day one, and how the bloody things ever got past initial development testing is beyond me.
All I can say is the "track test" drivers of the era must have been retired school teachers :)
-- Regards, Noddy.

Yup the Opel 4 speed was a complete joke a bit like the 3.2 litre donk in the EA Falcon.

Cheers,
Andy.
Marco - 19 Jun 2007 12:15 GMT > Only three? He's a pretty conservative sort of a driver, my Dad :)

Shaun P - 19 Jun 2007 10:57 GMT Hasnt been in a shed, has a 173 engine, 3 speed column shift.
Nothing special but ok to learn the road rules in. :)

Just thought i'd let you know.

Seems like people might have them tucked away in garages and only bring them out to play on weekends. This comes after last Sunday's Ferrari F355 sighting.
Incidentally, the GT3 sounded like absolute sh.t, one of the worst exhaust notes I've ever heard as it went past me. Sort of a cross between crackly and farty, like a Beetle engine with some sort of fuel supply problem.

I've seen a new Shelby? Mustang going down Northbourne and around the city a BMW M5 and a Lambo that I *think* was a Gallardo.
The other thing that I *thought* I saw in the Lambo was a fluro shirt driving it - I didn't know construction labour payed THAT well.

I thought hey cool. And then 2 mins later waiting at a set of lights I saw a 100 series Land Cruiser go past. A 100 series with about 2 inches of body clearance. This thing was decked, and had huge rims on it, And a very sweet sounding V8. Did a bit of research from the decals over it and found the beast. Pretty individual custom.

Seeing it in the skin really makes an eye turner. I'd own it if I wanted to show off to everyone under the sun hahah. And hell, it would probably be the only landcruiser in existence that can't easily negotiate a speed hump or pothole
