Four-wheel drive rams 'lucky' sculpture

A WOMAN is in a critical condition and two men were seriously injured
when a four-wheel drive hit them before crashing into a sculpture,
which is said to bring good fortune, in Sydney's Chinatown yesterday.

The trio was injured when the vehicle mounted the curb and drove onto
a busy pedestrian area, hitting them before ramming into the base of
the sculpture.

The entire vehicle, which had a bumper bar, left the road and ended up
on the footpath.

"Shortly before 1pm (AEST) police were called to Hay St near the
intersection with Sussex St," a NSW police spokesman said late today.

"A woman and two men had sustained serious injuries and were taken to
hospital."

The woman remained in hospital tonight with critical injuries and the
men were recovering from serious leg fractures.

The driver was uninjured and was taken to the Central Police Station
for questioning.

A police spokesman said charges were expected.

The crash scene remained roped off until a tow truck arrived just
before 5pm.

Damage to the sculpture, which is named Golden Water Mouth and is
predominantly made out of a tree trunk, was minimal.

It is said to bring good fortune and encourage positive energy.

Next time someone says the sculpture is attractive, it will have a
different nuance.

Yep people are becomming weaker, one would think with all those safty
features they would be walking away a fuzzy feeling inside, dreaming of
plush pile carpet, air con and climate control and bouncy air bags.

Exactly what the scupture did, just the people were not intune with their
surroundings and were sub-mindedly attracted to it.

So if the tree thing wasn't there, the vehicle would have kept going and
probably hit more pedestrians (who are always clustered around that area).

So the tree probably saved some lives. Sounds lucky to me.

Lucky if you're in the right place.

Maybe the tree attracted the car? It was said to "encourage positive
energy".
