the_dawggie - 26 Jun 2007 04:24 GMT Yesterday towing a Falcon on a car trailer behind me 'lux. I'm thinking 1.8T + 0.8T + 1.2T
I kinda ignorded the 3T limit on the street drived on which had a 3T limit sign.
Right or wrong?

That would depend on why the traffic was limited to 3T wouldn't it? In terms of damage to the paving 3T spread over 4 axles would be a lot different to 3T spread over 2 axles, although 3T limit does seem very low. I seriously doubt anybody would argue the point with you if they thought about how ridiculous it was.

The govt hands out millions of ridiculous fines and has so far not even stop to think.

Every day plenty of people get pulled over for speeding or the like and let off with a warning when they are blatantly breaking the law. Who in their right mind would, if told the ludicousy of the acusations, would fine you for a towing vehicle and tandem trailer exceeding the GVM for the street, when in practice is no different to two 2 tonne vehicles driving in close proximity down the same street.

Who's ever gonna enforce a 3 tonne vehicle limit I wonder?... Most likely a council imposed limit designed to discourage trucks.
The scalies, being the only ones who police such things AFAIK (and having the necessary weighing equipment), are only likely to be interested in individual axle loadings.

Ha ha,We have a road here, about 5km long which winds around a 65 degree small mountain, very sharp and almost single lane gravel(was used for rail line access in the 60's 70's and 80's maybe eraly 90's for a while untill they ripped up the line),for about 15 years now it has been 10ton limit, there is a bridge on the route. No one could ever work out why it was limited other than the bridge. Then they ungraded the bridge(standard issue concrete),5 years go by still 10ton limit. One day last year, they poped a new sign up,20ton limit. Why we do not know, someone did get a lease on a gravel pit along this road is maybe one reason, and to access it the short way they need to travel along it in a 10 yarder. Or they changed it for the log trucks, beats me,now the road is littered with empty log trucks, that blatenling try to run one off the road.
I recon it was the gravel lease.
Ironicaly the bridge is standard issue so could deal 40 ton not a problem. maybe they are scared the road will slip out off the bank.
silly really.

Only likely to be a problem if there is a bridge on that road thats in very poor condition. BTW I'm trying to work out your weights? 1.8=Hilux, 0.8=trailer but what model Falcon only weighs 1.2? It would have to be very old to be that light.

XM 2 door would be quite rare these days, despite its poor condition its probably worth more now that it was when it was new in 1964.

Not as rare as the Futura (which was essentially the same car with a few extras including different body mouldings), but still worth decent money these days in any condition. There's an early Falcon specialist wrecker here in Melbourne who I've dealt with a few times, and he happily paid five grand for an XM Futura coupe that was completely f.cked just because it had a complete set of repairable stainless body moulds & clips.

As a general idea of prices during that era: 1966 HR Sedan - RRP new $2600.
