That MUST be a soft door and hes jumping on his car to protect the paintwork
from scratches.

Not if the gearbox was up to the usual standard and had dumped it's
contents onto the floor.

From memory when they did fail something let go in the housing and bits
went in all directions destroying virtually everything.
I know one poor bloke who bought a new Magna wagon as a courier vehicle
and it had the auto replaced twice in the first 6 mths, the trans
failures must have cost Mitsubishi a fortune to repair.

When they finally got around to admitting there was a problem.

They didn't for quite a while.

Wasn't that the Auto-trans *Oil* issue?

IIRC, they had their owners convinced the problem was someone else's -
and that Shell actually produced a container that suggested the fluid
within was speshul  - just for MMAL's trannies. WTF was that all about?

Mitsubishi are notorious for hiding known faults or avoiding vehicle
recalls at every opportunity(which is why they've spent so much time in
court in recent years). Thats what that was all about...

No, they had a problem with a machanical component that crapped itself and
took a lot of other sh.t out when it did.

They do take their own special trans fluid, and will f.ck up quite quickly
if you use regular fluid, and that's still the case to this day as far as
I'm aware. However, that's not something that's unique to MMAL. Ford does
the same thing with their late model auto's.

Running the wrong fluid will generally have them flare on shifts almost
immediately.

The problems owners faced getting them repaired under warranty was lack
of available parts, there were so many failures that they couldn't keep
up the parts supply.
As I never owned one I don't know much about their attitude to the
problem but I know owners were very unhappy and I don't know of any
early auto Magnas that didn't suffer the problem.

the thing that made it sweeter from my perspective was he honestly deserved
to get pinged, did you see the pedestrians have to scuttle for cover when he
initially flicked the arse end around, stupidity like that deserves a nice
hefty fine.

I don't think they were about to be hit, it was more of a reaction to
someone doing a donut and scaring the sh.t outta them

I did once hear a huge burnout being pulled at Maroochydor one night,
the guy had planty of smoke happening that I could see from way up the
road, of course all that smoke also hid the cop car that drove up behind
him, and politely waited until he stopped and the smoke cleared before
making him aware of their presence

bet the people on the footpath were pissing themselves as well

but scramble to safety that did, all it takes is for some amature loser to
get it just slightly wrong and you could be looking at an ambulance to the
scene as well as the cops.
I'm sure it was just instinct rather than any real fear of being hit though
:-)

A friend and I used to pull up at the lights and sit side by side looking at
each other and revving the cars, then when the lights turned green we would
just tootle of at a snails pace. I was with my mate as a passenger and he
did it to some mulleted flano wearer in a hot HR, the HR owner didnt see the
unmarked cop car pull up behind him, we did!
so the lights go green this HR lights up the rears and shoots off the line
meanwhile we are just casualy driving away and laughing because there is a
set of blue lights almost glued to his bumper, in hot persuit :-)

I'm sure they did :-)

God made me an atheist. Who are you to question his wisdom?

had to divert through Ipswich the other day because of Roadworks,
travelling down Sth Station rd was some temporary resident on his bike
zipping through the traffic, went through a set of lights right past a
bright red Highway Patrol(went through on the green), got to the next
set and was sitting there at the red lights, meanwhile I had to stop at
the previous set for a red light, cop car turned right and was cruising
up the road and stopped behind the bike at the red, light turn green and
bike is off with the front wheel about 6 inches off the road, needless
to say by the next set of lights he was made fully aware of the Candy
Car behind him

if these people took the time to look about before doing silly things
they'd have a much easier time on the roads
