Toyota Celsior vs Aristo

Anyone driven both and care to comment?

I'm looking at Toyota's bargearse-sedans, and these two look the goods
for the money IMHO.

I'm expecting the twin turbo Aristo will have better acceleration, but
the 4.0L V8 in the Celsior would be a pretty nice drive (and nicer
trim), and several thousand bucks cheaper to boot - and I also spotted a
blower kit to suit for $3300 locally.

Thoughts?

Cheers,
Andy.

Why??

It's low
got wide wheels
probably a V8/turbo 6
and a body kit
4 big exhausts

isn't that what all SS and HSV, XR6/8 FPV vehicles are all about?

LOL.  At least the bodykit actually *fits*.

Even better this fine piece is currently for sale in Sydney:

Without the added fibreglass crap... these are really nice cars IMO, and
quite a bit cheaper than the Lexus equivalents (for no real good reason
that I'm aware of). I prefer the V8 engine, despite the lower power
output, so smooth and they have a great reputation for reliability.

Yep.  Upon researching it a bit further, I'll likely still be ahead by a
few grand if I go the Celsior route + blower which will make up for any
lack of power ;-)

Cheers,
Andy.

Nice car/engine combo.
I was considering one of these )Celsior or Lexus) and it was on my
short-list, but went for the Skyline in the end (two very different
cars, I know).

Which Skyline did you end up buying?

Nice.  I do like the look of those, but I really need 4 doors.

Turbo?

I'm sure there'll be another boring flamewar soon enough.

In the meantime, this puts any wannabe 'drifter' to shame:

I was looking for a four door, but it proved impossible to find one with
the specs I wanted. I've since come across two - one wasn't for sale
anyway, and the one that was for sale had a fugly body kit, which would
have had to be removed.

> Turbo?

Of course... now with a bigger turbo thanks to the boys at CRD.

just in case....
Celsior+WankerBadges+Golf Club menbership = Lexus 400 Series.
Aristo + Silly Badges = Lexus GS300.

The Aristo is a much more nimble machine.
Both use much the same technology IIRC, and so the ARISTO IS THE GO.

There's one Aristo turbo AWD model floating about circa early 90's.
Very interesting device indeed and in my opinion a bloody lovely car.

Yep, noted.  Pathetically, whilst Celsiors are going for between
$7K-$12K, owners of LS 400s of the same age are asking $20-$25K for
almost exactly the same car.

Oh, and I don't play golf...

Sounds like I need to make a weekend of it and test drive a few.
Factory twin turbo would be nice, but I could probably *still* get away
cheaper with a Celsior+supercharger...  I spotted a 4.0L V8 AWD Aristo
online yesterday, just out of my price range though...

Cheers,
Andy.

Is the IS200 a Corolla as well?

Is200 is a thing called Altezza in Japan - hence the term altezza lights -
clear covers with coloured stuff activating when lit. Sort-of. IMHO while
OK as executed by Toyota and as it happens by GMH recently, they're usually
nothing short of an abomination when done by aftermarket shysters - with
the design purpose of tail-lights  at best ignored and at worse utterly
mashed beyond all recognition as actual lights other drivers can actually
discern as 'markers' of something or other.
