The Holden Rodeo is no more.  As from the middle of this year the new
name will be Colorado.  Exact specs not available at the moment but
seems it will be as per current series Rodeo with a new front face
lift (American styling), possible tail light and surrounding area
changes and a few other cosmetics.  Still waiting for confirmation on
the rest of the vehicle.  The following model will have major changes
as Holden distances itself further from Isuzu.  Word is, Isuzu will
take over distribution of the current series through a new Isuzu
dealer network but they will not be using the Rodeo badging (not
confirmed at the moment)

Why can't we have Au names instead of Spanish/American FFS.

Subaru did well with Brumby, and don't a lot of country folk
wish you could still get them. Holden with their Jackaroo did OK.

To be honest an American name goes against the grain with me.
It's a negative, not a positive.

Thoughts gentlemen, and Neil. :-P

AU names are just as bad.

Ok Jackaroo but it sounds too much like a masturbating Kangaroo to the
new age masses. :-p

And yet we call the outback "The Bush" and in America its run by an idiot

I'm kinda with ya', but I'm not *totally* willing to accept a name just
because it's Australian.

Take Wandong for example. It's a small town about an hour North of Melbourne
that's (relatively) famous for it's annual country music festival, but it's
a *crap* sounding name. For a *long* time I thought it was something you
could buy in a sex shop.

"Introducing the new Toyota Wandong".

Nah, it sounds like something your missus would strap on when you're away
for the week-end :)

LOL! yeah some Australian terms/names are weird.

Associated with each other. Albury-Wodonga comes
to mind.

I still need to work out the name Hilux. Never worked out the full
story
behind that, athough I have a rego plate that pretty much has most
of the letters of the word in it.

Yeah although I still have a hard time stomaching the use of the word
Monaro on the VT/VX based 2 door Commodore. And even if Holden re-
releases the Torana name I would still have the picture of my LJ XU1 in
my mind but not the new one. :-)

They already have the 380 Boomerang,
thats the one where you have to keep taking it back for recalls and repairs.

And the 380 Digeredoo, thats the one that Sucks as much as it Blows!

Don't give a toss what they call them. Having said that, it seems
there are plenty who do, in which case I don't think "Colorado" would
be a good choice.
How about the new Holden Abo.
Any colour you like as long as it's black and windows optional.:-)))

Cant say I like these yank names either... OTOH many of the Aussie names
ain't much better. How about something more neutral - i.e Landcruiser,
Hilux etc.

And yeah... bring back the Brumby.

Probably because most Australians don't know what a jackaroo is!
(With the common misconception being that it's just another name for a
stockman.)

They're no doubt correct about the derivation, but the word itself is
a direct import from America.  Nor, I'd suspect, would a Spaniard know
what it meant!

So says the popular misconception!

I'd suggest Macquarie for the correct definition... which comes
straight from the era of the landed gentry (which is right where it
belongs).  There are probably still places that engage real jackaroos,
but they'd be getting harder to find.  Most of those I've come across
were the useless offspring of the city rich... such was the nature of
the job.

The enduring (and basically correct) image is the jackaroo character
in "My Brilliant Career" (for those who go back that far).  :)

Raises an interesting point...  since *real* jackaroos weren't usually
capable of either!  :)

To comment further on the job description above... having spent much
of my life in the bush I've _never_ heard a station owner use the term
in that context.  It's an area where the old terms and their meanings
tend to stick even when they no longer apply (ie those who're directly
involved haven't changed the job descriptions, and aren't likely to).

In station parlance a cowboy is still a cowboy (always has been and
always will be)....  He's the one who milks the house cow and looks
after the vegie patch.

Pity no one's told jobguide (which makes one wonder what sort of
fuckwits our own Govco employs)!  :)

Actually, I can't think of too many Oz cars with Oz names.

Falcon, Fairmont, Fairlane and LTD are all yank terms, Commodore isn't
specifically Australian, Calais is part of France, Statesman is any old
arsehole on a junket after politics, Camry and Aurion mean absolutely f.ck
nothing to anyone other than Toyota and 380 is Japanese code for "Failure".

I dont care what the new models are called either, as long as they bring a
V8 Hilux/Tacoma or they dont give em gay or obscure names.  I mean how
about:

The Mitsubishi - Durda?
The Hyundai - Kuna?
Range Rover - Ettamogah?
Ford - Kunchi?
Or the Falcon - Rtakuwima Thipi?

Or to be serious maybe these dont sound that fantastic for model names eh?

Holden - Mutta Mutta (Thunder) Ute
Ford - Yarramalong (Mustang)

Just doesnt sound right eh

Any more suggestions?

How about the "Big Fat Aussie Slacker" for the Taxi pack Falcon?

Or the "kantspekunglush" Econovan?

Maybe the "arogntfuka" Landcruiser?

"Tospot" Porshe?

New to me.

Isuzu is getting out of the small truck businees here in the states also.
The word is that they want to concentrate on their heavier trucks. For the
last many years the Isuzu small truck has bee a re-badged Chevy S-10 called
the Hombre. Since '04 when Chevy changed to the Colorado the Isuzu was
callled the "Canyon". To be honest with you our Colorado looks to have a
lot of your Rodeo in its looks, but we do not get the engines you do as we
get no diesel or v-6 in the Colorado. We get a 2.9 I4 or a 3.7 I5 both
these engines are based on the 4.2 I6 that comes in the Chevy Trailblazer
and the Hummer H3. Before I retired from the Chevy garage in '05 as I was
looking at the parts books to learn more about these engines I was not
surprised to see the words " Isuzu Motor Co." at the bottom of the page. I
work for an AC-Delco parts warehouse now and we have 9 Colorado's , they
are '05, '06 and '07s. They are all 4cyl autos w/ac . The '05 trucks are
all in the 175,000 to 225,000km range, I have an '07 that I got new in Oct
06 which now done almost 106,000km all city and urban expressway. I have to
admit even though I myself prefer Toyota truck by far that this Colorado
has been trouble free so far . I am the only driver for this truck and am
not an abusive driver. The only repairs have been to replace the Crappy
Continental-General tyres that came on it and the rear brake shoes were
worn out at 80,000km even though the front pads are still good. The
biggest complaint I have is that the interior is too plain and looks cheap
but seems to function okay. Petrol usage is about 21-23 mpg . (sorry , I
dont know an easy formula to convert to litre/100km ). I will be
interested to see what they do as far as engines for use there. If you get
a diesel maybe that it will mean one for us also. Hope this pst is useful
to any of you that likes the Rodeo and Isuzu trucks.
