I prefer to use the same tyres all round. But this has me caught.
I killed a tyre on the 200SX last night - pinched the sidewall on some
metal thing on the road. Bugger. The tyre was a Bridgestone GIII.
Trouble is, GIIIs are being discontinued. So the new tyre is going to be
different from its mate on the other side - unless I go all spendy and
replace both.
Tyre shop suggestions are
1. Potenza Adrenalin RE001 - a bit up the performance scale but he
reckons only 25,000 kms.
2. Turanza ER3200 - more a sporty touring tyre that kind of matches the
GIII.
Does anybody have any experience with either of these? Especially
interested in mileage from the Adrenalin.

I tend to use the same make/model for the same axle.
Does not bother me to use different if need be on different
axles, or even same axle, just as long as the same
specification and wear.
However, I don't drive a sports car.

But then a 200sx is just a tarted up 200B.
Having said that, it's best to have the same type of tyre on the same
axle. Normal driving won't be a problem, but having to hit the picks
very quick and very hard with different tyres on the same axle could
make things go unpredictable turd shaped.

Buy a pair for front or rear and use the odd one as a spare.

Yep, makes a huge amount of sense when the 200SX he's referring to has
different sized tyres front and rear. :))

Well it must have 2 spares then :)
Honestly unless you regularly push the vehicle at it's limits, the whole
different sized tyres front & back is a bit of a w.nk thing, not worth the
trouble, you only need directional tyres too then and you're royally rooted.
:)

No it hasn't. GIIIs everywhere. You must be thinking of a van or something.

The spare is a space saver.

If you haf four differnet brands and tread patterns on the car at once (as long as they were all the
same size) driven normally noone would notice the difference.
Start pushing and you will notice almost straight away. Take the good one and make that your spare,
buy two new ones for that end of the car. No problems.
have you checked that the spare is different from the shot one? Or is it a space saver?

I have two Commodores on ER300 tyres all round.
Good for the money - great wet weather grip and fairly quiet. Don't think
they are a performance tyre though.
Cheers
