American Hot Rod just f.cked it ...

That red 1931 Ford hotrod is not a pickup, it is a ute.

It really amazes me why folk here and there can't get the terms
right :-(

Pickup truck != Coupe Utility.

Get a life. It's a w.nk American TV show.

Only in your f.cked mind.

In Australia, it's a ute. In *America* the same thing is called a pick-up.
They have no such thing as a "ute", just like we have no such thing as a
"pick-up".

Go ask a few yanks about an El Camino or Ranchero "ute" and see how many
laughs you get :)

I don't care. I have a phobia about it, they are very different types
of
vehicles. Hey the 'rolla Hatchback is a Sedan? right?

A Facadore wagon is a Sadan right?

A truck is a truck and a Coupe utility is a Coupe Utility.

'Ute' is Australian English for a car-based coupe utility of unitary
construction, no matter what country it comes from. That of course
includes certain foreign cars such as the El Camino, Ranchero, and
even the Proton Jumbuck. Other varieties of English will use other
terms instead of 'ute'.

And it's moronic to use American-English terms like SUV (Suburban Utility
Vehicle) in Australia where "utility" means a totally different type of
vehicle.

Exactly.

I fail to see that a full ladder chassis vehicle with a separate
bed or tray to be a Coupe Utility. They are very different. Not
car based, they are a pickup truck - then you go upwards from there
to truck, or (lorry - not that I like that term).

Pick-up truck; what's that?  I've never heard of an Australian vehicle
called a pick-up but I know what a truck is, and the things you're referring
to don't look like trucks to me.
Is "one-tonner" the name you're looking for?

Nope. There are one tonner utes, with a half chassis. I believe the
Ford version cracked and fell apart.

How about 1 ton Kingswood *UTES* then?  they have a full ladder chassis with
seperate tray and its called a *UTE*.

My HZ Kingswood ute is a ute not a pickup and its got a full ladder chassis,
has the same front half as the wagon or sedan which are cars.  So here we
have a car based full ladder chassis ute, you going to call these pickups as
well??

Is it?
Thats the first time I've ever heard the term "coupe utility" in the
last 56yrs.
To everyone I know my Hilux is just as much a ute as my sons Commodore,
even my American mate calls it a ute.

You are delusional indeed. "Pickup truck" is the 'Merikun term and "Ute" is
the Aus term for THE **SAME THING**.
