Can you please title this:

QUIT THROWING AWAY MONEY AT _A_ GAS PUMP!!!

I don't know your particular petrol pump.

The use of "THE" is seriously starting to piss me off. It is one of
the American terms that irritate me. Not many do, however use of
"the hospital", and also "gas" in reference to fuel is.

Even stranger is that the BJ40 Landcruiser I owned was call a utility on
the rego sticker, it looked more like a wagon to me.

My Qld rego says utility :)
Pickups are those big arsed F250 type things that actually resemble a small
truck so be the term pickup truck,
A ute is not a truck, it's a sedan sized thing with a tray instead of boot
area.

I like descriptive/specific terms. The USA have some that are really
good.
Describing something as "THE" as if it is the only one of it's type in
the
world, and "GAS" ain't two of them.

On the "THE" thing, I have a memory of being taught in school not to
make a specific reference unless it was something I was pointing to,
or
was directly in front of me.

So you would say "I'm going to Pub" intead of going to the Pub" ?
"I'm putting garbage out"?
Who is this garbage person?

Nope, going to "my local pub {or insert name of pub}", I'd certainly
say
"going to hospital", "going to jail". Garbage, different as I'd be
looking at it,
"THE" or "THIS" would be appropriate.

"this garbage person" is correct as they would likely be in your face
at the time.

It's curious the USA terms differ. They will say "going to jail",
however they
would never ever say "going to hospital". There will always be a "THE"
in
there.
Athol - 28 Jul 2008 05:27 GMT

Did you perhaps mean gaol, the Australian/UK term, or jail, the US
term?

BTW, I'm sure that you've previously admitted that the NSW shape code
shown on the rego of you hilux is UTE.  It's a f.cking ute.  End of
story.

I've also seen compliance plates on F100 Ford styleside utes, with the
word UTE specifically shown on the plate.  The F100s supplied in
cab/chassis (ie no ute tray) don't have the UTE on the compliance
plate.  Similarly, on earlier model Hiluxes, the cab/chassis vehicles
had "truck" on the compliance plate to designate that they were sold
in cab/chassis form.  The ones with a ute tray fitted from the factory
are called a UTE in Australia.

They call all of them bakkies in South Africa.  Would you prefer us to
call your hilux a bakkie?

You can come inspect it for rust, you won't find any.
There are spots of it on exhaust, turbo charger looks like
new with a flat black finish. Everything else OK. I can take
some photos if you want.

I think that belongs to Ford/Mazda products like your good
self has mentioned on shortly after buying.

A 1984 Ford Meteor a relative owned, oh well, took around
six years - I got a door off a laser so it could get rego for him.
Amusing to see the bottom of drivers door to separate because
of rust.

And that was with honey coloured rust protection goop which
I feel back then did more harm than good.

*Any* vehicle made of tin will rust. Regardless of what it's coated with. If
you think yours won't (or hasn't already after 20 years), then you've got
both hands on your dick. The only way it wouldn't is if it spends it's
entire life in temperature controlled dry storage and never gets used.

Nope, been driven on beaches, parked by ocean - I think
I posted pics of it. The newer 'rolla didn't fair as well.

Well my 'lux is getting close to 230,000 km now,
still looks new,. I still hate the brakes - there is a design fault
there.

Yeah, the fault is the dumb tight-arsed c.nt doing the repairs.

There is no design fault, take it to someone who knows what they are
doing and get the "design fault" repaired:-)
You aren't qualified to work on your vehicles brakes so IMO it should be
illegal for you to touch them, take to someone qualified.

I know with your recent move you do stuff all kays, but Jesus Christ
man, hasn't your 'lux been 200,000+ for *years* now? Mine's pushing
450,000 now and it's not always the vehicle of choice (e.g. I don't
subject the family to shopping outings in it)

I'm considering replacing the booster. Brakes work fine, just not
exactly top peddle. Node is right. Cylinders including master one have
been replaced. 'rolla is gone from here now and I hated driving it.

I think it needs a proper beed procedure, other than that I don't
think
it's broken. I'd like somene to help, however mate that would spends
his time in down south in Adelaide. It works OK for now. In the next
two
weeks I'll poke and prod it, meybe get a new booster if that's what it
wants.

Nope, I meant jail, not something that sounds like something on a
football
field.

Nope, it's a pickup truck, and that was the original term used to
describe it when it was invented back in early last century. I
think Ford came up with the concept. I consider it an insult to
both the Australian folk who came up with ute, and especially
the folk that came up with a pickup truck to get the naming wrong.

Pickup truck != car based.

I don't understand what part of that folk don't understand !?!?!?

And to be technically correct, there are a lot of flatbeds around too.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pickup_truck

I do not understand why folk are dragging their heels on this,
it is all quite clear.

Hilux == pickup truck
Commode ute == ute || bakkie
Hilux with a flatbed == flatbed.

Whoa - look at that 50 tonne sedan with two house size
trailers behind it.

Ok, I give up, I drive a Hilux convertable sports car.

Depends on how one thinks. I think there is something wrong
with about 95% of the population.

There's probably "something" wrong with everyone, but for 90% of the
population it's not serious.
