I had a look at a Mk 1 cortina with a lovely 427 (I think it was a 427, hmm maybe smaller) in it.
Anyway the exhaust was a 3inch with a 1 1/4 inch tail pipe (Bottom half of the rear muffler was cut
away.
It even had stocky hubcaps and blinds in the back window. It made it to a copy of Street machine.
Id love to have driven it but that wouldve been like asking Dave if I could take Victoria home for
the night (When she still looked good).

You probably wouldn't have loved driving it, as it more than likely drove
like complete sh.t. Early Cortina's were pretty average cars at the best of
times, let alone one with over 5 times the power that it left the factory
with. Most blokes who do such mods set them up for the drag strip which
makes them f.cking *woefully* bad cars to drive around suburbia in. You may
as well get out and push it around corners as you'd most likely be faster
than driving it.
For the ultimate in crazy, there was a bloke in the US who had a Honda Zot
(one of their first 2 cylinder powered cars) with a supercharged big block
Chevy in it that made a genuine 1000hp. It was street registered and he
drove it often. It could *almost* pass as a sleeper except the 33x15 inch
rear tyres were a dead give away.
I imagine cracking the throttle wide open would have been an entertaining
experience :)

Not always, unless you have it set up spot on like suspension and brakes
etc etc.
Its easy to make a good handling car into a woeful pile of sh.t.

But its also easy to take a car with a chassis that is under stressed like
the MX5 and add to its potential without advertising it all down the side

There was a mob who did V8 conversions on MX-5's using 4 litre Toyota
V8's with supercharger as an option.
A great package indeed but me in a convertible not in a fit!

Ive seen one, bloody awesome fabrication works, they do a heap of them every year aparently.

Bloke I know bought one , now he isn't the usual revhead and it's not
his first fast car but by his own admission it was so smooth he did most
of his point in 8 weeks , he went back to his ute ( a v8) and felt much
safer
Having driven it once all I can say is considering the smooth
performance and points risk I am not surprised they are a quick car if a
little small for my taste

Bullet roadsters. They also did a 20b twin turbo option. They are meant to be
a 12 second car but I beat 3 of them at the Sandleford Sprints in my GTR. : )
The MX-5 is a great base for mods as they are one of the best handling cars I
have ever driven. Shame the 13b doesn't drop straight in. Rotomotion did a
rotary conversion on one a few years back and it was an engineering nightmatre.

I would of though a 13B would fall into the engine bay like a drunk falling
into a drain? due to the compactness of the engine.

Rotaries aren't that compact, a V8 easily fits into most engine bays
that originally housed a rotary so they are quite wide.
A few people have fitted rotaries to Lotus 7 replica's and it take a lot
of effort to make them fit where a straight 4 is meant to go.

My 6 foot 4 and a half 110kg mate fits in my girlfriends Mx-5 no problems.
Even with the roof up. I was surprised how big they are inside. Mainly
because you are sitting on the floor with your feet fairly straight in front of
you.

Its not that I can't fit in one I can but when I was last in a convertable
which was a Porsche 911 the mrs said I look like a complete clot in one.
I think I would prefer a bike really.
