Uncle Bully - 26 Feb 2005 07:00 GMT Bog standard 98 Commy Exec 124,000kms 12 months rego Regularly serviced at Holden dealer. Good mechanical cond but cosmetic damage (scratches and a few minor dings) Silver Will throw in sheepskin seat covers I'm going to check with the insurance company to claim on some of the dings so I may be able to remove most of those before sale.
A dealer has offered a tad below $10k as a trade-in so I'm offering it at this price to anyone who wants it. Will have photos available soon when my new camera arrives (last one got pinched)
Car is in Sydney Nthn Beaches but will consider delivery anywhere in mainland Aus for cash.

Just before Xmas I was offered $9500 on my TE Magna as a trade on the SV6. NRMA inspected the vehicle and have insured it for $11,000. Yes, it is an exceptional vehicle in virtually showroom condition....it's easy to keep it taht way because of the excellent build quality ;-)

Washed when ever it's dirty, and AutoGlymed every month.
Still as tight as the day it rolled off the showroom floor....though not as tight as my SV6 which wouldn't rev, and had to be turned straight after corners because the steering was so stiff.

dvk - 27 Feb 2005 07:14 GMT Ziggy Switkowski - 26 Feb 2005 08:18 GMT as a rough as guts estimation on auto trader, $10,990 gets you a '98 - '00 magna in mint condition. The $990 no one would pay anyway as its all dealerships and that's negotiable. Perth prices.
at the stealership, $10,990 gets you a '97 commode with close to 200,000k's on the clock, or if your a dickhead, an '89 VN SS private sale with 300,000k's on the clock. Bargain.... ;)

Who in their right mind would pay $11k for a 16 year old taxi with stickers on it?

Hence why I said, if your a dickhead.... about 9K too much as far as I'm concerned, however, this is Australia, and there is certainly no shortage of dickheads out there that would consider that fully sick car to be a bargain.

What was your arguement again...Oh yeah, you were going to mention the discounting that Mitsu has done over the last 5 years which has steeply devalued the cars....Right?

Volvos must come close to winning the "worst" guernsey. Someone posted yesterday from Brisbane on another car-related forum that he was considering a low-km 1998 V70-XC for $17k; they were $78k list-price in '98. Also, I was recently looking at immaculate one-owner $5k-$6k Volvo 940GLE's, which is the sort of money that just-about approximates "zero" in car terms; they were a $50k car 10-11 years ago.

It is hard to shake off an image. i.e. Jaguar had an "image" from the 'Leyland' years and with the "Noddys" around, it will be difficult to shake that "image" :-)
Mitsubishi Magna has an "IMAGE" (big one), Mitsi AU should change the name of the nrxt Magna sized car, to try and shake that "IMAGE", otherwise they'll go into under!!! :-)

I heard a story on the radio about a guy who lost $150k on his 2 year old Mercedes S600. That must hurt.

Aren't they designed to last *much* longer than that? What sort of w.nker goes out and buys uber-expensive S class, tries to unload it in 2 years, and has the gall to bitch about it?
Oh, that's right - the same one that buys a block of units under an airport approach/departure path and beside a freeway and then starts on about the noise problem.

Or the guy who buys a block of land which the coucil has specifically zoned low density, then takes the coucil to court and wins approval to build high rise units there.

Trade in prices are often pumped up to "do the deal", and that's a fair bit over what a series one Exec can be had almost anywhere.
Off load it to the dealer and save yourself the hassle.

I'd like to at least offer it privately before it gets recycled onto a yard at $13k. Ebay has free Car Ads next week, so I'll see what happens with that.
