I have noticed leaking coolant - I think it is coming from the heater core.
Have removed dash and two retaining bolts on the engine bay side of the
firewall and heater hoses - but the heater is won't come away from the
chassis still. Does anyone know how I can get to this leak - I am strating
to go crazy and I wish I had a shop manual for it.
Thanks

If it's like the Audi 100 of similar vintage, the heater box is
glued/sealed onto the chassis. As I remember there was also one
concealed screw accessible from inside the car.

Joel: I am replacing the heater core on a 95 Cabriolet (90). I am in th
sam
point as you when you posted the original message. Everything is out
th
heater box is separated from the ac evaporator portion of the box an
is loos
except for at the very back near the gas pedal
I hope you got it solved, if so what was the solution
Thank
Oh, and if anyone else has a suggestion please chime in. It definitel
isn't glued/sealed, of course a concealed fastener is certainl
possible, but it is loose enough to move somewhat, except the back nea
the gas pedal

There are controls attached on the sides of the box inside the car that
need to be removed. Pull the center console.

thanks for the reply.
I have everything out, console, dash, etc. everything and the heater is
completely free from the evaporator side of the box
I will look again at the cabling on the side. That doesn't seem to be
preventing the box from coming out, it feels like its something at the back
of the box against the firewall, but i will study the control aspect again.

Got it!.
The problem was that the manual says that there are 2 nuts that have t
be removed on then engine side of the firewall ... which is correct.
It also has a diagram which shows the 2 nuts but it is WRONG. There ar
2 nuts a couple of inches from the coolant inlet and outlet pipes, the
are oriented vertically and they are pictured within 2 inches of eac
other. There are 2 nuts on the firewall just like the picture, but th
lower one IS NOT the correct nut. The correct nut is lower by 6 inches
I had not noticed it previously because I thought i had the correct nut
removed.
Hope this helps someone in the future.

I noticed one response regarding glue and/or a hidden fastener, but that was
a different model.
I hope you got it solved, if so what was the solution?
