I just purchased an Audi A6 2.7T w/ navigation.  Unfortunately, the car
is out of warranty. I am having a problem with the navigation system.
When I place any of the Navigation CDs in the system, the system is
returning a "CHECK CD" error.  I am sure the CDs are good.  Does anyone
have any suggestions?

Thanks,

It's possibly a CD drive fault. You'd really need specialist help to
diagnose it properly. I believe the Audi units are actually Blaupunkt so it
might be worth talking to a car audio dealer to see if they can help or
recommend a repairer.

Sorry, can't help any more than that.

Not likely, he's been trying to vocalize a problem with the NAV SYSTEM, not a
CD CHANGER with a stuck cartridge...

My Audi dealer wanted $739 + labor to exchange the Navigation unit.  I
did some research and I found a Blaupankt repair facility who who had a
flat rate repair price of $172.50.  I have sent the unit in, and I will
post my results.

Thanks for all your input.  Here is the URL if anyone is interested.

I just got the unit back and had the laser unit replaced.  The unit
works great.  Midwest Electronics did a great job.  They only problem I
had was that they had no way of testing the unit, so they could not
guarantee the repair.  I took the chance and it paid off.

That is cool David, a nice little bit of info to have should ours fail!
So far so good.

I odometer on my '89 200 failed and instead of having the dealer fix it,
I removed the unit and had Continental Imports in Florida replace a
little plastic wheel for $75 when it would have been well over $400
anywhere else...

What a shame they no longer do that king of work though :(  But after
seeing what took place with your A6 I now have a choice down the road...
knock on wood that I won't :)
