Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but the batteries dying doesn't mean you need to re-program the remote, as I discovered last year with the remote for my '98 A6. The batteries that were in there were 2025's, I think, but looked the same as a 2032 (more common). I tried 2032s with no luck, found some 2025s, no luck, went back to the 2032s and it worked great! Not sure why it took some trying, but it's been fine for a year now, no programming involved. Good luck! Interesting... but I would've thought it'd be the other way around, then...the batteries that WERE in the remote were 2025s, and it didn't work when I first put in the 2032s. Take the key you DO NOT want to program and put it in the ignition. Turn it one click forward. 2. Close and lock the drivers door with the second key. 3. On the second key (the one in the drivers door) press the 'UNLOCK' button ONCE only. The lights will flash on the car, but the doors will remain locked 4. With the second key still in the drivers door, unlock then lock the door again. 5. Pull the key from the slot and test remote functions. 6. Open drivers door, remove key from ignition. If both of your remotes don't work, do the above for the first key, but on step #3, press the 'UNLOCK' button twice. Before you try anything complicated, just unlock & lock the car with the key in the door. That usually does the trick with my 96 A4. If that doesn't do it then try also starting the car. If it still won't play after that then there's probably some other long winded procedure..... You'll need to realign the remote when you replace the batteries or when you disconnect the car battery. You have got the batteries in the right way round I trust ;-) !? I. I had forgotten about the problem and hit the remote and it worked...... Freaky. Thanks all.
