Lost battery, radio went to "safe" mode and code is no where to be
found.  However, I do have the procedure to enter the code if I can
get it.  Is there an easy way to remove the radio and get its serial
number so I an get the code?  Any help appreciated.

You will need two thin tools to slide in the bottom of the radio.

You may want to do a search on Audiworld.com for information on the
tools and DIY help.

You may be able to call a local Audi independent chop or as a last
resort, a dealer for help.

The VIN should suffice. My mechanic put the radio in safe mode
when he swapped the battery and couldn't reach me. He called Audi
and they gave him the code. 99% certain he didn't remove the
radio, just used the VIN. Mine is a 98.

Take the car to an Audi workshop - they can open the radio again and give
you the code. They normally dont do this over the telephone - it would to
easy for burglers to get a stolen radio opend again then!
