A6 over heating HELP

After I bought  a 89  A6 a few thing have started poping up. The engine
cooling fans dont seem to work be working the belt driven fan free
wheels al the time and the power fan will not start. the first thing is
I checked the fuse block all are OK next check the fan relay....where
is the relay box or relays at?  engine compartment  under the dash ??.
I'm hopeing this car will smoth out but having 133k on it . If any one
point me i the direction.

There is no such thing as an Audi '89 A6 - what year and model are we
talking about ?

Given the mileage, I'm betting he had a touch of transient dyslexia, and
actually meant "98"

;-)
