Hi, can you fit an induction kit to an E34 520 Auto? I've looked at the
air filter box, and it has a sensor located in it, if you fit an
induction kit you remove the box, so what do you do with the filter?
Also the intake from the filter box seems to have a "bell" type end to
it, that a normal standard induction kit, KN air filter, wouldn't fit
on too?

"Bell End" just describes the plonkers who junk the standard airbox and fit
a cone type filter. These 'filters' simply suck in all of that lovely hot
air, thus permitting the engine to *lose* power. You can buy a K&N panel
filter, but all this does for you is allow you to clean and re-oil it
instead of replacing at each service.
BMW did spend a fair amount of cash designing the induction system on the
M50 motors. A $30 aftermarket filter will not improve things.
You need more power? Buy an E34 525 or 535.

That, and K&N's let in more "dirt".  Great for the engine obviously...

Not necessarily. Only if they're not 'oiled' properly (cleaned in special
solvent and coated with the "Special K&N Filter Oil". Still cheaper and
cleaner to use a replacement paper filter though.

Waste of time. Your manifold flows the same as that of a 525i, it's not
a bottleneck. All you'll do is get more induction noise.

Any gains will be at high rpm, so it's especially useless on an
automatic I'm afaird.
