Correct - and the total interval should be between 13,000 and 18,000 miles,
depending on fuel consumed, cold starts, etc.

There's a guy selling an 840 on ebay(uk) who claims that he changes his
oil every few weeks and plugs every couple of months. You might have
thought that if he didn't do that he could afford to buy the exhaust
boxes that it needs.

Naturally I am pleasantly surprised. Thanks.

Of course, even with the use of synthetic oil, some of us prefer shorter
change intervals and do an "interim" oil change at around 7,500 miles before
the next scheduled service. If you decide to go this route, specify an
interim "Oil Change" (about $75.00 US), not an "Oil Service" (ca.$220.00).
Naturally, the indicators should not be reset after an interim change.

I done that with my last car. When this one goes in for servicing I
will have everything that needs doing done as the taking the car to
the service station and then going back to collect it is the worst
part of the job. When the yellow lights start showing do they then go
from one yellow to four and then presumably to one red and so on? How
many miles does it take to get four yellows?

My current BMWs indicate actual mileage to the next service, starting at
15,500 when first reset. IIRC, you should have 4 greens (countdown), one
yellow (service due) and then one red (service overdue). I think the yellow
will stay on for only a few hundred miles.

Thanks. I had worked that out wrong then. I better get booked in now
then and have new traction arm bushes too. I had to have those renewed
on my last V8 BMW.

I got oil & filter plus 2 microfilters today for 150GBP and Monday it
goes in for the rest of the service and have it prepared for winter.

That is good news. I over serviced the 535 I used to have because I
thought the service period should be every 7500 miles. That is indeed
what it says in What Car magazine.

Didn't the service indicator work?

The 535 was bought with all green lights on. However once I realised a
dealer can re-set the indicator without actually doing the service I
had it serviced again but the mech couldn't get the indicator to
reset. However a few days later the engine was switched off while it
was still in "drive" while I argued with an idiot and when I went to
start the car again all the lights came on. It had reset itself
somehow. The car I have now came from a reputable dealer in Newmarket
who had serviced it when I bought it and I was curious why the last
green bar stayed alight so much longer than the others had.
