Hi all.

The ac compressor on my 2002 e46 has now started to growl on starting,
atherwise it works well with plenty of cold air. On recycling the growl
always starts again for about 5 secs and then stops. Car now 130 000 km.and
this problem just started during last 5 000 km.

Apart from the short noise on the compressors starting there is no other
indication of any problem.

Motorplan finished!, any ideas?

Any work done on the unit recently?  Like a recharge or new belts?

While the obvious answer is the compressor brearings are on the way
out, I've seen low oil causing noise.  If there was freon leak, along
with the gas, some oil leaks out.  Gas recharge normally does not
replenish the lost oil.
