Just tried to open the E34 as someone said try here, didnt work with the key in any door with the master key and holding up the handle etc etc. ok only way is jacking it up and powers leads from a charger onto the neg earth body and back of the...ok i forget :-) http://www.bmwe34.net/e34main/trouble/Locked.htm still cant get into the boot, tried again, it seems the clifford alarm has dead locked that too, it did with the fob until the battery went dead BTW I have picked up another almost identical E34 525i off ebay, get it in about a week How much a place charge to take off that alarm and pop it on the new one? Which obviously moved the central locking motors to a different state. However, the key would still operate the one door deadlock mechanically. Sounds like that link has been removed. Gawd knows why because most forced entries to steal things from a car don't involve a key but a hammer...;-)  Signature*Reality is a crutch for people who can't handle drugs. I am seriously confused by your problem. The door locks on my '94, and (I think, but am not certain) my '00 3Series cars are mechanical. I've phisically had the lock (driver door) out of my car and know for certain that it is mechanically operated by the key. It is also electrically operated by the key in the other door, and by depressing the door lock on any door. The only lock that does not operate the other locks is the trunk lock. I can lock the car from the trunk, but I can not unlock the car from the trunk. It's some time since I had an E34, but IIRC you turned the key a second time to activate the dead locks. And since it did all the doors it must be motorised. But you could open a deadlocked door with the key even with a flat battery - just the rest stayed locked. So I *guess* it would be possible to remove that mechanical link and make the central locking deadlock with a remote. Dunno why you would, though. BTW, my E34 had an aftermarket alarm/ remote system fitted. BTW, my E34 had an > aftermarket alarm/ remote system fitted. The way my car works is that the keys turn the locks mechanically and strike a switch that activates the other locks on the car. The key mechanically activates the lock that the key is inserted into, but the remaining locks are operated electrically. That is why I confused by the OP's problem. We opened the boot, which should be easy even when deadlocked (just turn the key all the way around), and connected another battery to the interior light, having removed the bulb.
