1995 BMW M60 730 v8 Cat

There is a rattle from the cat. from the above vehicle. Does this mean that
the best thing to do would be to get it/them changed. The exhaust centre
said that it will fail the next MOT and will cost £700 to replace?

No because it also might not fail and you will remain £700 richer.

It might just be some hardware or the heat shield.  I'd wait for a
failure.  Or if you prefer, pay for an exhaust gas analysis outside of
the MOT inspection.  Then you will have some time to get it taken care
of rather than right away.
