Setup the Homelink on our '07 328XI and it works good except it will not
operate inside the garage? Pull out of the garage a couple feet and it
works again. The car parks almost directly under the Chamberlain opener.
Tried pulling and backing the car in with same result.

Any ideas on how to get this problem solved?

Is the car running?  It won't work if it's off.

Switch on the ignition, but do not start the engine until the door is open.

Symptoms if engine run in closed garage - skin goes bright red, drowsiness,
unconsciousness, coma and death.
