The following is from a complaint I just register with the BBB. If you've
had similar problems please contact me...
I purchased a Jaguar XKR from CARMAX's Davie Store on 5/19/07. At which time
I noticed several problems with the car that needed to be fixed. I reported
the issues and left the car with them for repair. When I picked up the car I
noticed that most of my issues were not addressed. While waiting for parts
to arrive for the second round of repairs, I took the car home for a few
days. I found numerous other repair issues. I found 12 warrantee issues.
When I brought the car back I gave the Service Manager, Sammy Warnamally a
printed list, and copies of CARMAX's certification form showing why these
items were covered. I brought my car in on 6/1/07. When I got my car back 14
DAYS later discovered 1) stereo wasn't fixed, 2) second set of keys and
valet key were not in yet, 3) convertible cover was not ordered, 4) trim
around the door handle wasn't addressed 5) visor wasn't replaced "because
Jaguar sent them the wrong part." 6) now the rear view mirror is loose as if
the car suffered a heavy impact or was driven a long distance down a dirt
road. Caked on white mud is on the inside door panels. For 2 weeks I have
been strung along by the service manager. When I asked to pick up my car
until the parts arrived, I was repeatedly told the seats were taken apart
and awaiting a headrest motor from Jaguar so I could not pick it up. Jaguar
Parts Department told me their delivery takes a week at most and parts can
be overnighted for a nominal cost of $6 per item. I was lied to that my car
was ready except for the headrest motors. I was also lied to about the extra
set of keys being there. Despite involvement of Operations Manager Adam
Warner and General Manager Theresa, my vehicle is still not fixed. I have
lost many hours work, suffered grief, and have had to pay $606 payment for a
car I was only able to drive a few days. I am releasing this to the Media,
posting my story on Internet consumer protection websites, forums and
newsgroups to get together a class action lawsuit. I am registering a
complaint with the Attorney General's Office and State Attorney's Office, as
I suspect foul play.
As it is impossible to trust CARMAX, I want all further repairs to be done
at Alpine Jaguar. I want Jaguar to inspect the car for accident/abuse
damage. Compensation for my monthly payment to Capital One for $606. My lost
time and wages estimated at 6 hours at $150 an hour. Grief and punitive
damages will be addressed in another arena.

I have a 735i. Nothing but trouble. Next car will be a Lexus. I'd rather
give up a little handling and the ability to cruise all day at 140 mph which
only gets me a jail sentence here in Florida and instead have a car that
rides more quietly and doesn't spend half it's life in the repair shop at
$2k a visit.

dont do that! I have a 740 IL 2001. its got 80k on it. everymonth
somehting goes wrong. so far
nav screen replaced
nav core replaced
engine head gaskets redone
entire tranny replaced
and yesterday the alternator went-another 1500
Just the fact that this much ghad to be done before 80k over the
scheduled maintenance is unacceptable to most people.
non stop drain. while it was under warranty my part of the payment
would be around 1k. now it will never be less than 2k for sure.

its a nice ride, but the maintnence is killer and its not even a 100k
miles on it. the ultimate driving machine.....yea right.
anything but a BMW now. and I have only driven BMWs since 88. my 325 IS
did bettwer than the 740-absurdly expensive car.

If this teaches you anything then it must be DON'T BUY A FORD of any
description.

You seem to be the type of person that does not inspect or test drive all the
car and it toys before buying and then spend $$$$ for a load of crap.

Cavet Emptor is the words that should be ringing in your ears now. fortunately
we have laws in the UK that minimise this type of thing but we still have
w.nkers (jerks) that ignore all warnings.

Why didn't you ask for the name and address of the previous owner?

Why didn't you get a professional check on the vehicle?

Why didn't you buy a BMW?

You must be one of the few POMS not to visit Florida- Bmw's are as useful
here as a Ferrari in Manhatten rush hour. And beyond warranty the costs are
eye-watering ($300 for a battery, $1500 for rotors that can't be shaved etc.)

Little man you have a filthy mouth. As an enthusiast I appreciate fine cars
but do not blindly defend them. Not all things Ford are horrible, just as not
all things BMW are brilliant.

How can you claim to be an enthusiast when we talk about the "Ford Jaguar". If
you were talking about a FORD FORD then I might agree as the new Mondeo here in
Euroland is a real nice bit of kit but when you get the Ford Jaguar being a
re-bodied Mondeo then it automatically becomes CRAP and not a JAGUAR.

Same goes for Aston Martin but Ford have now unloaded that to someone that will
take the care to maintain the breed.  I admit Ford's intervention in Aston's
affairs, especially pumping more money than sense into it, saved their bacon and
it eventually became a better car but......... being a clone of the Jaguar XK-E
it was only bought by people with more money than sense the same as the new RR -
Land-Rover look alike.

Jaguar as a brand is failing here and sales are falling like snow in Colorado in
the winter.  The engineering is great and I cannot fault it as the ideas are the
same as most prestige car makers using aluminium and space-age materials where
possible however, the insides are all FORD MONDEO clones albeit with leather and
wood but still available in the standard range of rep-mobiles or family cars
where there is no prestige in having one or even driving one.

As I said: I'm an enthusiast-not a FANATIC. It's painful for you to admit
Ford has done anything right, EVER.I'm really happy the Vanquish & DB9 exist.
You vaguely concede such points only to follow it with- BUT.blah blah blah.
Relax. Are Lamboghinis crap because of their tractor origins? Here's an easy
one..Tell me how horrible the LR3 is. Oh, & I don't care any about the Mondeo.
...that's a car for  Consumer Reports staff. I  mean really; lets talk about

Once upon a time I only bought FORD cars - you have probably never heard of
them. Classic (UK version of the Monterey) with reversed sloping rear window and
no parcel shelf. Then a Zephyr (UK name with US origins) then a Zodiac US
styling with UK mechanicals.  Trip into unknown territory an Austin
'Vanden-Plas' 4 litre R with a RR engine (from the Champ army truck I must add).
Then a couple of Imps by ROOTS or Chrysler by then. Back to Ford for the Mk2
Cortina GT then a Mk2 Lotus then back to a Mk2 with a 3 liter V6 (Home brew)
then a Granada 3 litre V6 auto.  Whilst in the "trade" I had several RR shadows,
a couple of Ferraris a Dino V6 and an old superleggera or as you might know it
the Super America?? Then my First BMW E3 3.3LiA --- many other BMWs followed
3.3LiA 3.0CSL then divorce but now back on track with my 3rd in the past 10
years.

BTW my Lamborghini P400 Muria was one of the best real super cars I have ever
owned both for pleasure and posing and pulling........... Bright Yellow, 4 liter
V 12 transverse and 6 downdraught Webber carbs behind your left ear!

Now, I'm not calling you a liar, but you should know that your street
cred is *seriously* injured by your inability to spell Weber.  I'll
bet you don't know how to pronounce it, either...

Depends if we're talking carburetors or gas grilles.   ;-)

All typos are deliberate and actually I used to know the late John Passini of
webber UK actually it wasn't Webber UK then but a dingy group of sheds in west
London and if you read his book you'll know what I mean.  That guy could dyno
tune a Webber carb just by listening to it - well almost as plug reading helped
too.  The problem is it is now a lost art.

So don't call me a liar as I could sue you.

Eh?  Are you not mistaking BMW drivers for VOLVO drivers.  It is the Swedish car
maker - Oops! US owned by FORD - Volvo drivers are obliged to drive with their
headlamps on at all time so we expert drivers (no matter what we are driving)
can be aware of a complete f.ck wit coming towards us and to take appropriate
evasive action that also stopping, parking up or even hiding in the
undergrowth..

BTW not fog lights but ultra bright parking lights and they come on when the
ignition is energized.  Volvo also supply blinkers as used on horses for use by
the driver so they will not see anything else other than where they are going.
To this end the handbook clearly states to ignore any distraction employed by
other road uses to attract you attention to dangers or dangerous behaviour by
yourself.  Ignore all traffic signals and NEVER stop at road junctions or
give-way to other road users no matter how old, infirm or pushing a pram.

It also states that you must treat every car park as if it were a race track and
if multi-story all entry and exit ramps must be considers as the equivalent as
the banking at Indianapolis Motor Speedway or Daytona Speedway.

Obviously you won't see this Dizzy (or will you as you are probably lying your
a.s off wanting to see what I come back with)

Dizzy - if you actually kept up with the thread in logical (you do know what
that means - if not get a friend to tell you) order then you might just learn
something useful.

A Troll is someone like yourself that knocks everything and sundry that they
don't agree with.

It's a wonder you even have the sense to have a driving licence or to persuade
anyone to insure you to drive a car.

It is obvious that you and the VOLVO club have one thing in common - the
inability to engage brain before opening mouth.
Dean Dark - 17 Jun 2007 22:28 GMT

Actually, no.  That's not the definition of a troll at all.  It's a
common misunderstanding.  Usenet trolling is a fine art, one that's
not *anything* like what's going on here.

$150/hour??  If you really make $312,000/year you shouldn't be shopping
at Carmax.

>$150/hour??  If you really make $312,000/year you shouldn't be shopping

It's a naive and common mistake to assume that an hourly rate equates
to the mechanic being paid at that rate for the whole year.  It's an
even more naive and foolish mistake to fail to account for the
operating expenses of the business.

I'm not defending Carmax or anyone else, I'm just pointing out that
there's more to what you pay than just what the grease monkey gets in
his pocket.

Think about it.

It wasn't the mechanic's rate.  That was the supposed lost hourly wages
for the OP's having to get his car fixed.

Oh and if it only amounted to 6 lost hours, why bother?
