I bought a 2005 330i and was not given the pass code to sync my cell
phone to the car using bluetooth. The first owner is not available to
me. Can anyone help?

Thanks
Phil

Try 0000.

I've bought several Bluetooth devices, and they all work with 0000. I'm not
clear on why a code would be needed or desirable to pair a device to the
phone.

If the car is already paired to a phone, you might not be able to pair it to
a different phone. I have several cell phones in my house, and the bluetooth
devices tend to move from me to my wife to my kids, and the device can not
be paired to a new phone until it is unpaired from the previous phone. If
the previous owner had the car paired to his phone, and got into a different
car and drove away, then this car is still paired. I don't know how to force
a device to not be paired anymore. I always use the phone to unpair the
device, but you haven't go tthe phone because the previous owner drove away
with it.

I can pair several devices to the same phone, but I can only pair any device
to a single phone. I have a headset and a visor-clipon device that are both
paired to the same phone, but I found that I had to unpair a device from my
phone before I could pair it to another phone.

I suspect your car is paired to a phone that you do not have access to. I
don't know how you will overcome this problem, other than maybe
disconnecting the car's battery.

I too have paired a number of bluetooth devices to one phone. The car
asks for the pass code which am told is supplied with the paperwork when
the new car is delivered. 0000 did not work.

Thanks

When I attempted to pair the same device to more than one phone, the error
was not about the wrong code being used. I don't recall what it was, but the
code was not the problem.

I can't think of any reason for the code except that the user can set it so
somebody can't come along and pair the car to their phone. If your car is
paired to your phone, nobody can pair the car to their [hone anyway, so I'm
not sure the value of the code. BMW has to be the source for answers to your
question. I can't think of any reason for the device manufacturer to set the
pairing code to anything other than all zeros.

The code is dependent on the actual BMW bluetooth phone holder that is fitted to
the car so I suggest you pull the thing out and there might be a number on the
back.  Look in the handbook there may be the piece of paper that came with the
phone holder stuck in there.

Next stop is a BMW dealer who will probably have wipe out software to re-set the
device.  Secondhand cars are being sold all the time so the problem shouldn't be
restricted to just you.

Thanks for replying. It is a 2005, it does not have a phone holder.

Thanks again.

Hi
I have a 2007 328xiT and a 2008 328xi (E91 and E90). I paired my
wife's phone to her car and also paired my phone to hercar without a
hitch. In other words, we have two phones paired to her car, albeit
that only one can be used at the same time, of course. But both are
listed as blue tooth devices on her car's iDrive.
I also paired my phone to my car without a problem, even before I had
the phoneholder installed by the dealer.
The code it's asking for is a code you actually type in using your
phone while you are doing the pairing. Any number will do. When you
are prompted to enter a code on your phone, just press 0 (zero), then
you will be prompted by the car to enter that same code on the keypad
on your car. You only have a certain amount of seconds to do that. If
you do, and the car recognizes the code you just typed on the phone
(in this example zero) your phone will be paired. The code it's asking
for is only a temporary one so it can check the phone if it is
transmitting properly that code, and if it does, then the car will
recognize it and ask for that code number you just typed in so it can
send it back to the phone and establish the connection properly. Once
it's connected it will now proceed to read in the address book etc
from the phone to the car, which can take a minute or so.
Do you have iDrive? That may make it easier to perform this task.
In any event, at least in my two cars, you don't need any special code
or the actual phone it was paired to, in order to pair your phone to
the car. As it turns out, when the dealer had installed the phone
holder and tested it on my car (the E-90) I discovered my phone wasn't
paired anymore. He must have used his phone to do the testing. I just
simply paired my phone again.
It may be different on the 2005 model, but see what the manual says.
Or call a service center or BMW assist.
