1995 525i - RPMs drop & vacuum fuel economy guage max out for a split second

Greetings,
1995 525i, 200,000 miles...
Before I break out the Bentley and the voltmeter, I thought I'd ask if
anyone has experienced this before. While cruising on highway (75 mph) I
first noticed power seemed to "drop out" for a second, car began to slow,
RPMs dropped down and erratic in general, and also noticed the fuel economy
guage max out (to highest economy reading) but after a second, everything
goes back to normal. Anyone care to guess what seems to be the problem? I
appreciate any insight into this. Could it simply be a vacuum problem,
maybe?
Thanks,
KB

Could be, but more likely an electrical problem, because vacuum leaks don't
tend to reseal themselves immediately.  I'd first check the air mass sensor
and the crankshaft position sensor before anything else.

Low on fuel, water in fuel, vapour lock, blockage in fuel line, wrong fuel,
air leak ...
