1987 325e Starting Problem

I purchased an 87 325e. Everything ran great till I had a brake line
done. Now I am having a starting problem. Did a full tune u, problem
still there. Once started, the car can be turned on and off no
problem. Also while first driving the rpm's go to between 3500 and
4000 and won't go down. Once she shifts there is no problem and she
shifts easily.

And ideas of what can be causing the problem?

Automatic or manual?

When it doesn't start, does the tailpipe smell like gas or not?

What does it sound like when it doesn't start?

If you pull a plug when it doesn't start, do you see a spark?
