I recently check front disk bad pads on my 328i w/ 22k miles.
The pads are approx 3mm thick.
Is there a recommended thickness where they should be replaced?
What brake pads are recommended. BMW or are there aftermarket which
are good?

Thanks
Ed

As Burley said, 2mm - but that is the *minimum*!  I usually replace
them when they're around 1/2-3/4 worn.  But then, I do sometrack
events where they can go away *very quickly*.  Which brings us to your
next question:

There *are* aftermarket pads that are excellent.  It depends on what
you want out of your pads and how you drive.  Going through a set in
22K is pretty aggressive braking, IME.  You might want to consider
some dual purpose street/track pads like PBR or Pagid.
