What would be the best method to tow my 528e?
Can I use a tow dolly without disconnecting the driveshaft?

thanks in advance

Put the rear wheels on the dolly & run some rope thru your steering
wheel to keep it straight.

Just a thought..

Manual or automatic?

Auto, no.  Manual yes, but I'd recommend overfilling the differential if
you're going to do any extended distances.  Otherwise you'll burn up the
pinion bearings.

Brett and Rob both have a good point. But Rob's way is easier but you don't
need the rope. Center the steering wheel and remove the key. Then the
steering is locked. Bet I just opened myself up for a Brett reply. But he's
cool and I'm a big boy and can take it. Btw, you didn't say how far you will
be towing it. A hundred miles, I woudn't worry about it.Much over that I'd
tow it from the rear.

Thanks all!
I have decided to tow the car on a trailer instead.
I have to travel over 400 miles and it just seems safer all around.

It really is.  If you've got something big enough to tow an E28, it
should just as easily handle a trailer and you'll feel a lot more
secure about it.
