I was looking on the Cars.com website regarding the 2004 330 CI. I was
surprised to find not one but two different engines. There is the STDEN 3.0
L I6 DOHC SMPI engine. There is also a DOHC Inline 6 cylinder engine, which
includes a special intake and exhaust camshafts, special electronic engine
management system wit ha 6800 rpm redline, specific flywheel configuration
and a 155 mph top speed limiter. Anyone know anything about this engine?
How many of each engine are in the 330's? Thanks for any information in
advance.

There is exactly one engine in each 330. Sorry. Couldn't resist.

I love it, thanks for the clarification. I mean to say two different engine
options. Thanks for the help.

The higher performance engine is a warmed over version found in the Sport
Kit option. A bit faster than the standard unit. Falls between the
standard 330i and older M36 M3 in performance. The kit also gives you other
trim pieces, and other upgrades to the suspension, etc.

... not nomenclature ever used by BMW, it has to be said...

Probably the engine in the 330i Performance Package, a NA market-only
variant. The 155 mph limiter is not part of that package though (all
other 330s have a 155 mph limiter for the manual version).

<tongue-in-cheek>
Only one engine per car, I'm afraid.

BMW makes a few thousand 330i PPs for the US and Canada. Overall 330
manufacture? No idea. Of ~500,000 3ers a year, maybe 10%?

Performance package. Slightly tuned engine, slightly more aggressive
suspension setup, unique trim exterior and interior.
