2000 323Ci rear suspension subframe mount failure

My 2000 323Ci has 62000 miles on it.  I found out this weekend that
the occasional cluck coming from the rear of the car was the left
subframe mount banging around since it had been ripped from the
body.  The right mount is close behind it and would have also been
ripped out if I hadn't stopped driving the car.

Has anyone ever seen something like this happen on a car that's not
even 5 years old and has never been raced or driven extra hard?  I do
like to drive fast, but I also baby my car.  Any ideas what could've
caused this to happen?

Thanks!

Erik

I've seen this happen on both E30 and E36 3 series coupes.  You'd think they
would have this sorted out by now.  It's not very expensive to fix with a
bit of welding from your local body shop but you shouldn't have to put up
with it on a car less than five years old.  See what BMW have to say about
it.
