m20 or m50?

Hi there,
will an H registered 1991 BMW have an m20 or m50 engine?

Might help if you said the model and actual date of registration, as the
M20 changed for the M50 around that time

If it has plug leads, it's an M20.

Hi Dave,
'tis moot now; I was bidding for a car I didn't win, but it was a '91 'H'
520 - I suspect it did have the M50.

It's easy to tell by looking, if this comes up again in the future.  M20 has
no black plastic cowling, all exposed engine parts are aluminum (valve
cover, intake manifold, etc.).

OTOH, M50 has black plastic cowling over the valve cover and injectors and a
black intake manifold.
