My 1983 320i has the Aux fan in front of the rad, anyone got any idea
where the temp sensor is located cant seem to locate it. I admit I
have only done a cursory search and must crawl under I guess but all
the same a hint of where to look would be appreciated.

The other question I have is what is the normal operating temp for the
car (according to the gauge) is it around mid point or 3/4 ?

Should be a temp switch screwed into the radiator somewhere.  Also, if you
have AC, it is traditional that the fan comes on with it.
