I bought a 1994 325ic in the US a few weeks ago and have to follow a
process importing it into Canada.  One of the things is it needs to
have Daytime Running Lights installed.  The place that does the
inspection was not really sure where to run them off of as he said the
ignition in the e36 is different than most cars (coil? or something
like that).  He said he was sure he would be able to find a source to
run them off of but it would probably take him a couple of hours to
find one.

CAN someone please advise me of where a person would connent DRL's to
in this car???  Thanks in advance, BRIAN

don't understand what the big deal is here, what am I missing?

Connect any source of hot in run (but not start) so it fires
a relay that feeds current to the city lights (or low beams
through a resister to drop the voltage, and a diode). You
can also get a DRL module, just hook it up the way the directions
say.

Are you sure you know how it's done - R & diode ?

That's how I've done it. It works.

Why do you need R to drop the voltage ?
Why diode ?

Post a message to Daniel Stern on rec.autos.driving, or go directly to
http://www.danielsternlighting.com/ and email him.  He will absolutely
know the answer (unlike we hackers).
