Which current models provide the best overall vehicle for your buck?
Comfort, performance, reliability and the most important of all... least
upkeep necessary (ie. no crapping of parts, etc)...

In general, anything with an I-6 engine. V-8s are more troublesome - but
not necessarily the engine itself. The four cylinder cars handle perhaps
better than the sixes, but are lacking in performance for most.

Depends on what you call best and where you are asking from.

I would say that the 325i, 5speed, *no* options, would provide the best car
for the buck in the US.  It is the lowest priced available US model but
still has all of the quality and handling of a BMW.

Honda Accord, hands down.  Not the best car I've owned (5er wins that), but
the best value and the most trouble free.
