E21 316 (with a 1766cc M10 lump in it, as fitted by bmw!!!)

I\'ve got an E21 316 (bizzarely with a 1766cc M10 lump in it, as
fitted by bmw!!!)

Any one heard of this kind of thing happening???

Wow.  BMW fitting an engine with a different capacity to that implied
by the badge?  Say it isn't so :).

Not only is this commonplace, but in your case entirely expected.  BMW
fitted some E21 316s with a 1766 cc carburettor engine.  The
short-lived 315 came with a 1573 cc engine.  For European (non-UK)
markets, a 318i was available with the same engine and fuel injection.
In the US, this car was later known as a 320i.

So an E21 with a 1.8 litre engine was variably known as a 316, 318i or
320i depending on where in the world you were at the time.  Again, all
very normal for BMW :).
