Hi

Just collected new BMW X5 today....
I'm curious... there are 2 AV In/Out plugs on the centre thing between the
two front seats (just under the cig. lighter in the back)
What are they for?
Can I plug my iPod (music player) in them to listen through the car's stereo
system?

correct,

you can even plug in a dvd-player or as what i did a MP4
player from Archos and that way i had MP3 music or movies
on the front screen (the screen will blanc while moving, but
music and sound will keep playing). it's also possible to
plug in a monitor screen and wath the tv signals (if you have
the tv option) on the backseat.

What sort of plug do you use on it to get audio and video out/in?
Is there a wiring diagram or something?

just a normal headphone (mini-jack) kind of plug, i don't know
the technical term but it's the one used in portable audio
and cd players as well. only for video and sound you need
one with 3 contacts (just take a headphone and you will see
2 contacts).

One more thing.....

I have connected both a music player and a video camera to the input, and
nothing happens...
When I connect the camera to the output, I get sound  and video (from the
tv)....

I've selected the AV channel on the TV, but still nothing....
Is there anything else I should know?

as far as i can see you're doing the right thing.
only thing i can imagine is that the connector fails
on you (either the output or your cable). are you
using the same cable or do you have 2?
if you get sound and video from your tv on your
camera than that cable is right. for your mp3 or
cd player a standard cable will do cause you dont
need to send tv signal to the bmw system.

good luck,

John
