Okay, sort of a continuation of my last post.
With the OBC, can anyone explaing to me how the CODE system works? As
I understand it it imobbilizes your car, but when and how? How do I
set a new code, and when do I have to put in a code?
If anyone can give me a run down of how all this works id really
appreciate it.
thanks,
Code function shuts off spark and fuel.
It's a one time use thing. When exiting the car, with ignition on, press
CODE, then use the number buttons and press CODE, or SET to set the code.
Sorry can't remember which.
When you come back to the car, turn ignition on, CODE will display on OBC.
Use number buttons to enter same code you entered when setting it. Then
press CODE or SET.
Car will now start.
If you try to start car 3 times with CODE set, it should sound the alarm
horn.
Next time you want to use the CODE feature you have to start again. It does
not remember anything.

I am in the process of acquiring the parts to install the OBC in my
89 325i, what all parts will I need to find? I know of the
following...
1) The OBC itself
2) The OBC wiring harness
3) The OBC ready turn signal stalk (to do it right)
4) The OBC relay (don't know much about this one)
Is this it or is there more to it? I've seen references to a second
horn for the OBC, this is no big deal as a horn is easy to come by.

Neither. Hitting CODE brings up the blanks. Enter your number and
switch off.

Nope. Just enter the code with the key in #1 position. Tried it last
night after installing a new light bar in my '88's OBC. Worked like a
charm!

I wasn't willing to create a public spectacle (as if taking my dash
apart with a Swiss army knife at my kid's soccer practice field isn't
spectacle enough), but I did try the 'no-start' starter once or twice.
It didn't start! Cool!

No problem with that. Northeast Wisconsin isn't exactly a hotbed of
16-year-old BMW thefts.
Anyhow, the end of the story is, I immediately called my new insurance
company (AARP/Hartford after almost 30 years with Nationwide) and told
them about it. I get a *discount*! So, Brett, for cluing me in on
this, I owe you lunch! Bear in mind the discount is $4.00 annually

it seems like it is stuck on thise "CODE" Function.. how do I just do
away with it and get back to the time or whatever else? It only lets
me put in numbers.

Brett may have a more definitive answer, but I'd suggest disconnecting
the power to it for awhile. I don't know if the NiCads in the dash
power it while the main battery is disconnected, but I don't think the
computer itself has any battery backup. Therefore, if simply
disconnecting the battery doesn't reset it, I'd disconnect the
computer from the wiring harness (IOW, take it out - but you don't
necessarily have to disconnect the switches in the same panel -
there's enough room to unplug the computer) and see if it resets.
As always, when disconnecting the battery: You *do* have the radio
code, don't you?
One question: will the car start?
