1996 520IA (E39) alarm system not working.

Hi,

I recently bought a 1996 E39 520IA. I am extremely happy with this car
overall, sweet ride. However I cannot get the alarm system to work. I have
checked all the fuses, but nothing wrong there. The red light under the rear
view mirror does not flash as it is supposed to when the doors are locked.
Any suggestions?

Are you sure it's fitted? It wasn't standard - although the light housing
under the mirror is.
