The sales man at my dealer said they were going to start manufacturing the
2005 3 series in August and it would basically be the same as the 2004.
That is different than all the auto magazines that say the 2005 3 series
will be resdesigned.  Does anyone know the truth?  He says the new
redesigned 3 series will be an 06 model made next spring.

Believe your salesman.  Don't know which magazines you've been reading,
but that's opposite everything I (and others here) have seen.

I have never read one magazine saying the 2005 model would be
redesigned.  What magazines are you reading?

When would the 2005 series potentially hit the west coast  USA?  I am
looking at the 330 CI.

I was at a dealer near san francisco a couple days ago looking at the
3-series and the salesman basically told me that new 2004 production
was ramping down because they were going to start 2005 production in
August with 2005 cars available to customers in December.

I've just ordered a 2005 330CI.  The two door coupes will not be redesigned,
yet.  The new body-style is for the 2006-2007 models of the 3 series coupes.
The 4-door sedans will have a new body-style (resembling the 5 series now)
starting next spring (spring 2005).  They will start manufacturing the 2005
series in august 2004.

When does it become available in the USA?  Don't know.  I am an American
Navy Officer stationed in Germany so I get to pick mine up straight out of
Munich.

That's all I know for now.

The auto magazines are right - the new E90 will debut in late 2005.

I don't believe that's the case for the US market. Everything I've seen and
heard indicates a 2006 release here.

I don't know what the case is in Europe but here in the states we will see
*some* E90 models at initial release, sedans basically. Coupe, M's, wagons
(will the US even get a 3 series touring?) and convertibles won't be offered
at the first release.
