Hello All

Has anyone had the Ipod hooked up to their BMW yet? If so, which Ipod? Also,
did the BMW center do it for you and how much did it cost?

Thanks

David

Supposedly the BWM Service Centers will be charging 1 Hr. worth of
labour to do the work.

I haven't gotten one yet but as soon as they become available in Canada
my dealer is supposed to let me know. The cost of the adapter will be
$229.50 CND.

Cheers.

Hi,

Wondering how the install turned out and how well the
connector/interface works.  I have an iPod mini and got a $500 USD
quote for the connector and installation at Irvine BMW in Southern
California.

Thanks.

The connector/interface works great... haven't had any issues.

For both the connector and install I paid ~$600 CND (including taxes)
which I thought was a little high but I didn't see any other option. I
was the first to get it done at my dealership earlier this summer so it
took them almost 2 hours.

Cheers.

Got an ipod and the itrip for Christmas.  Works just fine, but you lose some
signal to noise and freq response going through FM.  There are several
integrated ipod solutions (BMW, dension, monster), all of which replace the
CD changer.  I think you can use a blitzsafe adapter to augment the CD
changer.  There's also an aux input kit available that creates a 4th input
for the head unit (Radio, CD or tape, CD changer and Aux) which will take
any audio device output through a stereo mini-plug.

I think the real trick is not so much getting the music from the iPod, but
rather making the install appear integrated into the interior (no power plug
to the lighter, no music output cable to the radio, etc).  I'm working on
that one.

I'm currently struggling with that one, trying not to do any damage
having never messed about with a car before :)

I've got a 1991 (or there abouts 318i), and the stereo in the car has
aux inputs, which are female phono connectors. I've got a headphone
jack to phono cable, which I want to somehow link up to the lower
recess in the central console. A bad picture of my console can be seen
here:

The lowest recess (the bigger of the two) has a small hole in the top,
through which I could thread the cable for connecting to my iPod
mini. The analogue clock pops out, and I can see behind it a set of
wires that goes up around the aircon unit and appears in the stereo
system recess, coming in at the rear left of the recess. My hope is
that I can somehow thread the cable I have down the same path, and
then grab it behind the clock and have it come out in the lower
recess.

I started it yesterday, and will try and see if I can convince the
cable to go where I want at the weekend.

If that doesn't work - I suspect fitting it will be a job for a
mechanic :) I'm certainly not planning on taking the dash apart myself :)

Seems your California dealer is taking you for a ride.

Here in Canada the Dealer list of the adaptor is $229.00 Cdn and 1 hour
installation.

that's less than $350. at most locations.
