Can a navigation system be installed in a 2005 545 after it has been purchased,
or can it be put in only as a factory option?

Sorry, I meant can a system integrated with the in-dash LCD be installed.

Yes it is available from a BMW dealership as an upgrade kit. If you have a
problem finding it try www.jerseyparts.com
