Hi,
Wanted to make my first post to the group.  Purchased a 2002 530i
Sport/Premium about 3.5 months ago.  What a wonderful machine!  I found the
528 a little too sluggish, and the 540 more than required...the 530i fit
just right.  Happy motoring!

Well, good for you. No doubt a nice car.

You have a manual or auto?

Auto with Steptronic, it's a blast to be able to flip the gears when you
want to.

Do you still bother? I played with mine as you do with a new toy, but then
forgot it. Sports mode with liberal use of kickdown gets the settings
where I like them when pressing on.

I do. I usually drive the car in Sport mode, but when I get on a twisty
road where I can play it stays in Selectronic mode. Sport mode is good,
but it can't anticipate the need to be in a lower gear when entering a
corner so as to be ready to power out of the corner.

The instructions said to use Windows 98 or better, so I installed RedHat.

Trouble is, on the sorts of roads I like to do this in, you're looking at
second gear corners. Touch the rev limit, and it changes up regardless.
On a manual, you'd simply ease up slightly to maintain it at peak power.
Perhaps it's just the 528 where the two are so close.

Nanny state gearboxes...
